The Rockscan W100 barcode scanner supports various transmission modes. This chapter describes the features and how the scanner can be set to the respective mode.

Bluetooth HID mode (Human Interface Device)

Function: The barcode scanner emulates a keyboard and sends the read barcodes as keyboard input to the connected device. This mode is compatible with a wide range of devices that support keyboard input, e.g. laptops, tablets, smartphones and POS systems. However, it has limited functionality as it only allows the transmission of barcodes as keystrokes.

Bluetooth SPP mode (Serial Port Profile) – COM Port Emulation

The barcode scanner establishes a serial connection to the connected device and sends the scanned barcodes as a data stream via a virtual serial port. This mode enables flexible use, as the data can be used in various applications, provided they are set up for this. Not all devices support SPP mode.

Bluetooth BLE mode (Bluetooth Low Energy)

The barcode scanner uses the energy-saving Bluetooth technology BLE to send data to the connected device. The advantage is lower energy consumption, ideal for mobile devices with limited battery life, but shortens the wireless range.
